September...school's in...it's the season of new routines, embarking on learning, and deciding how you want the year to end. End it on a positive note...and in a smaller size!

Keep Learning. Students are back in school with families adapting to new routines and disciplines following the summer break.

For adults as well, it's a strategic time of year for recommitting to goals, setting new standards, and taking action.

What's on your list for something new this fall?

Studies on Blue Zones (specific places on the planet where people live to be 100+ years of age - in good mental, emotional, social, and physical health) found that continuing to learn, and having a purpose in life, are contributing factors for thriving well into old age - with less chronic illness and dementia.

I don't know about you, but my desire is to thrive and live life independently, and in good health, well into old age. Here's a true story of how mindset and attitude are key factors in how we live the story of our lives. Both encounters happened in a local supermarket:

It's easy to meet people you've not seen for a while when you live on a small tropical island.

On this particular day, I met a tired-looking, heavy-set lady who had taken part in a course or two of mine years ago. She could never fully commit to her own well-being and new ways of living that promote health.

"Retired", she told me, as she complained about low energy and increasing lack of mobility. Her weight, unchanged since back then, is still a good 40-50 pounds too heavy. Always the encourager (I can't help myself!) I began offering suggestions to console and help her improve health, wellness, and energy. She's 5 years younger than me. (I want people to live the best life they can, with vitality, self-confidence, health, and happiness.) It wasn't long before her list of excuses grew, and I walked away understanding that she has been unable to change a long-standing negative mindset that is locking her into a future of ongoing health challenges.

Same supermarket. Different day.

"I go dancing every Saturday night", she said, "and I just turned 91!" I marveled and lamented the fact that Saturday night on the couch with Netflix is quickly become a habit of mine - this needs to change. Dancing, a creative form of exercise and social interaction, lifts the spirit and soul. I want to be dancing well into old age with vitality and positive attitude.

It's time for the Annual...

The Little Black Dress represents not only pounds (kilos) and sizes down, it captures the essence of imagination and the feeling of sliding into that smaller fit - whether a little black dress or your skinny jeans.

Set to relaunch on October 15, the course is offered in a variety of formats and offers a bonus session in January.

Look forward to my September newsletter just next week.
